Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of someone else by putting yourself in their position. It involves recognizing and acknowledging the emotions of another person and being able to respond with compassion [showing concern and care for others] and kindness. [emotions: strong feelings such as happiness, sadness, anger, etc.]
For instance, when your friend is going through a tough time, you listen to them and try to understand their feelings. You might say, “I know how hard that must be for you,” or “I am so sorry you have to go through this. Is there anything I can do to help?”
